Lavender Kew Red (French lavender Kew Red): Lavandula stoechas 'Kew Red'

Lavender Kew red is a half-hardy evergreen shrub, with highly aromatic grey foliage. It remains compact and prefers a sheltered, sunny position in well drained soil. It may well require some protection in winter, apart from in the mildest locations of the UK.

This is one of the earliest flowering lavenders, with flowers from late April/May depending on your location.

The flower heads are covered with cerise red florets and long pale pink bracts emerge from the top of these. The flowers, like all lavenders, are a magnet to bees and other beneficial insects and, as such, are particularly welcome as this is an early season flowering plant.

This is a great patio plant — ideal for tubs, containers and large hanging baskets, as well as the front of the border where the fragrance and spectacular blooms are easy to enjoy.

Plant alongside the more traditional English lavender for an extended flowering season.

Pair with other silver leaf plants for an impactful mixed container planting. Try adding Trailing Silver Germander and Helianthemum 'The Bride' for a harmonious and colourful mix.
